The ingredients listed on your current formula or scrolling through them on your computer screen during your search may seem like another language altogether. With all the scientific names, marketing terms and ambiguous labels, what is really in your toddler formula? Why don't we break it down together and explore what makes Sammy’s Milk approach so unique and refreshingly transparent.
Unraveling the Label Beast
Anyone who’s tried to read a formula label knows how overwhelming it can be. Many brands load their products with images and buzz words to distract you from what we are asking you to do: READ the ingredients list. It is nearly impossible to pronounce some or recognize words they want your child to literally SWALLOW? What is the BEST rule of thumb? The simpler and more familiar the list, the better.
Watch out for:
-
Corn syrup solids and maltodextrin – These are commonly utilized as inexpensive carbohydrates for sweetness.
-
Soy lecithin – A Common Emulsifier derived from mostly Genetically Modified soybeans.
-
Palm and seed oils – Highly processed, often oxidize under heat, and are linked to inflammation and heart disease.
Why Sammy’s Milk is Different
Our philosophy at Sammy’s Milk is one of simple, whole food ingredients: the best quality of what is needed & nothing more.
Our whole goat milk contains natural oligosaccharides, which are beneficial to toddlers with sensitive stomachs. We use both avocado & fish oils for their clean & healthy fats. We add bioavailable, methylated vitamins such as Quatrefolic® folate and B12 as methylcobalamin so your child can absorb and use them more easily.
Manufacturing Details:
We use tapioca starch as a mild, whole food drying manufacturing ingredient that is sprayed onto our healthy fats to keep them stable while they are dried slowly. This helps to maintain nutrient contents & keep them stable, and gradually preserves sensitive nutrients. Tapioca starch appears on our label as added sugars, but not to worry—it is not a sweetener. It exists to safeguard the wholesomeness of our whole-food fats. Most other brands will use the inexpensive drying agent soy lecithin.
What is the Difference Between Infant and Toddler Formula?
You see that our label says Toddler Formula (12–36 months).
Infant formula is currently under FDA’s prescription drug umbrella and as such, medical claims can be made. There is no “Nutrition Facts Panel (NFP)” like the Sammy’s Milk label; as we make a whole food product and we are labeled as such. Our NFP provides complete serving information regarding our whole food product like calories, fats, vitamins, protein, etc.. This enables parents to make informed decisions as well as compare products side by side.
